Transport stoppages planned

A general strike called by the Unione Sindacale di Base is scheduled for October 30, with public- and private-sector workers expected to participate. Viagem e Turismo, citing the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport’s calendar, says the action includes railways, aviation, local public transport, taxis and ports.

The railway stoppage is planned from 9 p.m. on October 29 until 8:59 p.m. on October 30. Aviation action covers all of October 30, including a separate strike by workers at Pisa and Florence airports. The strike call does not mean every service will be cancelled; travellers with tickets should monitor updates from their operator.

Earlier concern around Milan’s Duomo

In a separate report, Folha Turismo said a Brazilian photographer was told to leave a department store in Milan’s Duomo square during the afternoon of Monday the 19th. The report said local merchants feared a repeat of vandalism recorded over the preceding weekend.
