Fatal shooting and arrests

Officers responded to the Avenue B area of Ensley at 9:14 p.m. Saturday following an automated gunfire alert and a report that someone had been shot, according to WBRC FOX6 Birmingham. Jaxon Trew Bearden, a 21-year-old from Alabaster, was taken to a hospital and later died. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified him.

Police were subsequently told that a woman hurt in the same shooting had arrived at UAB Hospital. Her injury was not considered life-threatening. Authorities reported taking two suspects into custody within 30 minutes of the shooting.

Capital-murder allegations

Police on Monday named the defendants as Birmingham resident Darius Ramone McConis, 18, and Ja’Maries Antonio Robinson, a 20-year-old from Mobile. Both were charged with capital murder on allegations that Bearden was killed in the commission of a robbery. AL.com also reported the charges.

The charges are allegations and have not been proved in court. Birmingham Police said the circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation.
