Teen arrested over shooting near Florida A&M stadium
Arrest announced
Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell announced early Monday that a 15-year-old had been arrested in connection with the shooting, Boston 25 News reported, citing WCTV. The teenager faces 11 counts of attempted second-degree murder and a charge of possession of a firearm by a delinquent.
The announcement updated an earlier WUSF account saying no arrests had been made and police were working to locate and arrest those responsible. Investigators had asked the public to provide information, photographs and video.
Police said the gunfire occurred at about 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 24, near Perry and Manatee streets and Bragg Memorial Stadium. Revell said a physical confrontation occurred before shots were fired and that none of the injured people appeared to have been intended targets.
Six remained hospitalized
Twelve people were injured, including six juveniles. Police said 11 had gunshot wounds, while the Tallahassee Democrat reported that the 12th person was hurt while fleeing. The youngest victim was 11, and one of those injured was a Florida A&M student, according to the newspaper.
In the latest condition update cited by Boston 25 News, six people remained hospitalized on Sunday, including one in critical condition. Five other victims had been treated and released, WCTV reported. Revell had said during an earlier, late-Saturday briefing that two victims were in serious condition, but the Sunday update did not state their subsequent conditions.
Florida A&M President Marva Johnson said the shooting happened off campus and that counseling would be available to students. She said Tallahassee police were leading the investigation.
