Passport order raises legal pressure

Questions over Bolsonaro’s location emerged when the senator reportedly failed to present his passport to the Federal Police by Tuesday morning. RTSH reported that a Supreme Court judge had ordered the travel document cancelled and that Bolsonaro had not appeared publicly since Monday.

The scrutiny is a separate legal development following Bolsonaro’s reported defeat by Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the presidential election. RTSH, referring to sources cited by O Globo, said Bolsonaro had conveyed fear of arrest during a private meeting with close associates.

Conflicting accounts of possible departure

La Repubblica reported that Federal Police were checking Brazilian border crossings to assess information that Bolsonaro might have left the country. RTSH said Brazilian police were consulting Argentine authorities, while regular immigration records contained no entry showing that the senator had crossed into Argentina.

Media accounts describe different possible routes. According to RTSH, Infobae placed Bolsonaro in Argentina on Monday evening and linked him to a private flight from Puerto Iguazú to the United States that never departed. Todo Noticias alleged that he entered Argentina on foot, while allies cited by Folha de S.Paulo reportedly said he travelled north. The conflicting reports do not establish that he departed Brazil.

Bolsonaro said in a social-media video that he had never considered leaving Brazil. The reports did not establish his location.
