Public filing advances listing plan

Anthropic filed a public Form S-1 registration statement with the US Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday, taking a formal step toward an initial public offering. The company said it plans to trade on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker ANT.

The filing does not mean that an offering has been completed. Anthropic’s prospectus omitted both the number of shares it expects to sell and an anticipated price range, leaving the size and valuation of any eventual transaction unresolved.

Estimates point to major capital needs

KOSU cited reports estimating a possible valuation of $1.5 trillion to $2 trillion. KRTV cited separate reports suggesting the IPO could raise as much as $100 billion. Those estimates are not final offering terms, and the amount Anthropic ultimately seeks remains unknown.

KRTV reported that Anthropic lost $80.7 billion over the first six months of 2026, up from a $13 billion loss during the equivalent period of 2025. It also said private investors had placed a $965 billion value on the five-year-old company earlier in 2026. The figures underscore the financial scale surrounding Anthropic as it considers raising money from public investors.

KOSU quoted Georgetown University markets specialist Jim Angel as saying that a public listing can provide money for growth, make additional fundraising easier and give existing investors a way to sell their holdings. KOSU also reported concerns among investors about whether AI companies can become sufficiently profitable to justify spending on data centres and other infrastructure. Anthropic’s eventual offer terms would establish how much capital it intends to raise through the IPO.
