Attack and manhunt
Seven people were reported killed when gunmen attacked a church funeral in Jordan’s southern Karak governorate. Cumhuriyet reported that 27 people were injured, while the BBC put the number at 34. Both figures came from early accounts, and the discrepancy has not been resolved.
A manhunt was under way following the shooting, according to the BBC. The available reporting did not identify the attackers or report any arrests.
Jordanian Interior Minister Mazin al-Faraya described the shooting as an act of terrorism, Cumhuriyet reported. King Abdullah II said those responsible would face the most severe punishment. Jordan’s prime minister also condemned the perpetrators and said the country would stand against extremist ideology.
