Earls Court footage heads to Berlin

“Stage,” an immersive production featuring previously unseen footage of David Bowie at London’s Earls Court in 1978, is scheduled to premiere at Berlin’s Uber Arena on February 14, 2027. Variety and Deadline report that the event will take place during the 77th Berlin Film Festival.

The project brings together filmmaker Brett Morgen, Wonderworld and the David Bowie Estate. NME reports that Morgen found the raw 35mm concert film while making the Bowie documentary “Moonage Daydream.”

An archival show, not a live Bowie performance

The arena production will present recorded material rather than a live performance by Bowie. According to NME, the footage will be combined with immersive audio mapping, a sound mix by Paul Massey, lighting designed by Patrick Woodroffe and transparent LED screens. The screens are intended to create the visual impression of Bowie and his band appearing onstage.

Additional performances have been reported, but a full itinerary has not been confirmed in the available announcements. NME says plans call for shows in Germany, Austria, France and other parts of Europe in May 2027, followed by UK appearances in June and July. Its report names Earls Court among the intended UK stops without giving a date for that show or identifying the other venues.
