Relative dies after developing symptoms in quarantine

Kenya’s Health Ministry has announced a second death from Ebola. It identified the patient as a 65-year-old woman related to the country’s first fatal case and said she had been directly exposed to that patient.

The woman began showing symptoms on October 13, 2026, while quarantined, according to the ministry. Officials now put the national count at nine confirmed cases, including the two deaths.

Ministry links cases to one contact group

The other seven patients are being cared for at two isolation centres, the ministry said. Officials have classified every confirmed infection as part of the same cluster and reported no sign that the virus is circulating beyond it.

The second death therefore falls within a contact chain already known to authorities: the woman’s connection to the first fatal case had been identified before she became ill, and she was in quarantine when symptoms appeared.
