Van plunges from mountain road in Neelum Valley
Four children were killed and three other people injured when a van travelling to a madrasah left a road in the upper Neelum Valley on Saturday, officials told Dawn Pakistan. District Disaster Management Officer Akhtar Ayoub said the vehicle was travelling from Nagdar via the Keran bypass link road when it plunged more than 500 metres into a rocky ravine near Ghorray Nakkah Morr.
Ayoub said the crash occurred at about 8:30am as the driver negotiated a sharp bend, less than a kilometre into the journey. Three children died at the scene and a fourth died later at the District Headquarters Hospital in Athmuqam. The three injured people were transferred to Muzaffarabad in critical condition.
The official account did not establish why the van left the road or provide details of a formal investigation. Legislative Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Tariq Farooq urged caution on mountain roads, but the reporting did not attribute the crash to a specific driver action or road defect.
Car and fuel truck collide on Guyana highway
In a separate crash, four people died and three were critically injured when a car collided with a heavy-duty fuel truck near Long Creek on Guyana’s Soesdyke-Linden Highway late Friday night, according to Kaieteur News. The car was carrying seven people. The outlet identified three of those killed as Tevin Thompson, Eon Jervis and Doneel Darrell; the fourth victim had not been identified in its report.
Kaieteur News said preliminary information indicated that the car had been travelling at high speed before the collision. The reporting did not identify the source of that assessment, provide a formal investigative finding, or describe the weather, road surface or other highway conditions at the crash site.
