Vaccine trial begins

The Democratic Republic of the Congo has begun testing a candidate Ebola vaccine, Aktuality reports. Researchers aim to determine whether it can protect against a strain for which no vaccine is currently approved. The trial is intended to assess protection; the candidate’s effectiveness has not yet been established.

Cases confirmed beyond DR Congo

Digi24 reports that cases have been confirmed in Kenya and Nigeria as health authorities work to limit the virus’s spread. These confirmations mark a separate development in the widening outbreak.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control assesses the risk to people in the European Union, including Romania, as very low, according to Digi24. It nevertheless recommends that hospitals prepare to identify any imported cases quickly.
