Patient remains in specialist isolation
The woman is being treated in an isolation unit at Geneva University Hospitals, where her condition is stable, Le Temps reported. Geneva’s health office said she will remain isolated for as long as required by her condition and public-health measures.
She and her husband had been medically repatriated by Rega on Monday. According to the canton, their transport and admission to the hospitals followed national and international protocols designed to prevent exposure to the virus.
Preventive isolation in Zurich
The woman’s husband, who is considered a contact, is in preventive isolation at University Hospital Zurich. Die Presse reported that the patient is the wife of a Swiss Embassy employee in Nigeria. The available reports do not identify him as an Ebola patient.
Geneva University Hospitals and University Hospital Zurich have been Switzerland’s designated centres for treating diseases including Ebola since 2019, according to Le Temps. Both have adapted isolation units and medical personnel trained to handle such cases.
The Federal Office of Public Health said there was no risk to the Swiss population. Ebola is transmitted through close contact with an infected person or animal, including contact with bodily fluids, Le Temps reported.
