Forecast and preparedness shortfall
The International Organization for Migration has warned that about 874,000 people in Somalia are at risk of displacement during the coming three months. Horseed Media reported that the projection reflects the danger of widespread flooding amid heavy rain and rising river levels. The figure describes people who could be uprooted, rather than those already forced to leave their homes.
Funding for preparations is far below the amount sought, according to Hiiraan Online. It reported that the IOM had obtained 14.4% of the $16.62 million required for flood preparedness as heavy rains threaten vulnerable communities.
