Hamilton hopes to race in Rwanda
Lewis Hamilton has said he hopes to remain in Formula One long enough to compete in an African Grand Prix planned for Rwanda in the early 2030s. The Guardian reported that the 41-year-old, seven-time world champion described racing in Africa as a dream and supported holding the event in Rwanda amid criticism of the country’s human rights record.
According to The Guardian, Formula One has confirmed a 10-year agreement for Rwanda to host the race on a purpose-built circuit in Bugesera, about 25 miles south of Kigali. The track has not yet been constructed. The event would mark Formula One’s first race on the continent since the 1993 meeting at Kyalami in South Africa.
