Different measures show declines in Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan produced an estimated 82.4 tonnes of gold in 2025, down from 87.1 tonnes in 2024, according to US Geological Survey figures reported by The Astana Times. The 5.4% decline placed the country 15th among gold producers, accounting for about 2.2% of global output. Worldwide production was estimated to have increased 2% to 3,800 tonnes.
Kazakhstan’s national statistics use different measures. The Bureau of National Statistics recorded 127 tonnes of unwrought, semi-manufactured or powdered gold in 2025, a 4% decrease from the previous year. Refined gold production fell 4.2% to 71.2 tonnes. The Astana Times said the national and international figures differ because of variations in methodology and product classifications.
Full-year extraction of gold-bearing ore declined 6.2% to 39.2 million tonnes, while production of gold-bearing concentrate dropped 26.4% to 307,400 tonnes. The US Geological Survey estimate cited by The Astana Times put Kazakhstan’s geological gold reserves at 2,300 tonnes, or about 3.5% of the global total.
Mozambique aviation chief calls for coordination
In a separate development, Mozambique Civil Aviation Institute chairman Emanuel Chaves called for coordination between the mining sector and air transport to provide logistics solutions for the extractive industry, AIM reported. Chaves spoke on Wednesday at aviation and mining events in Nacala, in the northern province of Nampula.
Chaves also presented Mozambique’s Civil Aviation System Master Plan for 2026–2045. It contains 141 activities across nine areas, including airport modernization, improved air connectivity, stronger operational safety and optimized airspace management. He said the estimated initial investment had been revised from $710 million to $420 million to make the plan more realistic.
Chaves said work with the African Development Bank was intended to help mobilize funding for the planned measures. He identified Pemba Airport in Cabo Delgado and Vilankulo Airport in Inhambane as facilities needing improvement.
