Indictment outlines earlier encounter
A new indictment alleges that the shooting at a West Baltimore youth football game followed a confrontation involving Tyree Reynolds, 23, and another man two days earlier. Reynolds is accused of first-degree murder and related offenses in the death of Khloe Ishway, a 12-year-old bystander. He is being held without bond.
According to the indictment as reported by the Baltimore Banner, Reynolds and an associate pulled a gun on a man and struck him in the face during the earlier encounter. On October 3, the man and a friend encountered Reynolds while leaving football games at Leon Day Park. The indictment alleges Reynolds took a firearm from his backpack and began shooting toward them near a crowded field.
The targeted man, who legally carried a concealed weapon, took cover behind a pickup truck and returned fire, the indictment says. He and his friend were wounded, as was Reynolds, who was struck in the ankle. Ishway was killed and four people were injured in the shooting. WMAR 2 reported that Baltimore State’s Attorney Ivan Bates said 20 rifle cartridge casings were left at the scene and five people were hit.
Officials revise initial account and seek life sentence
Police had initially described the violence as arising from a parking-space dispute. Col. John Herzog said Thursday that account reflected information available early in the investigation, while subsequent work pointed investigators to a different alleged motive. He credited tips from community members with helping investigators identify suspects and advance the case.
Bates and Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott announced Reynolds’ indictment Thursday. The Baltimore Banner reported that prosecutors intend to seek life without parole. WMAR 2 separately reported Bates saying his office would not negotiate on a first-degree murder charge and would pursue a life sentence.
